Dr. James R. Sawyers graduated from Purdue Veterinary School in Indiana in 1979, after receiving a bachelor's degree in 1976 in Animal Science.  "Doc" as he is known around his neighborhood, joined the Brighton Animal Hospital Staff in 1979 for 4 years.  He then bought the three clinics and started working for himself.  

Doc is married to Robyn Kaan-Sawyers and has three children Krya, Jason & Max.  Also included in his extended family are 2 cats, 1 bird, 12 midget frogs, fish, geese and TAZ (who is a 8 year old Great Dane/Pit Bull mix).

In his spare time, Doc likes to garden, do landscaping and read science fiction books.  As most people who meet him will find out rather quickly, he enjoys his career choice and has a great time teaching and talking to the different people he comes in contact with.  He firmly believes in  preventative medicine and treats all his patients like they were his own animals.
