We have served the Tallahassee area with high quality veterinary care and boarding since 1972. Our goal is to exceed your expectations of pet health care and to provide complete veterinary services and deluxe boarding for your family pet.

Oakwood Animal Hospital is an exclusively small animal practice. We are experienced in many types of pets including but not limited to dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, ferrets, rodents, reptiles, and exotics. Advacments in technology have resulted in an increased quest for knowledge and led to the purchases of state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation. This helps us keep your pet healthier and initiate more appropiate treaments should your animal be ill or injured. You will love our friendly, highly trained staff and doctors, each with special interests, to serve your pet's needs. We continually invest in the education of our staff so that we can serve you better. We have a doctor certified in acupuncture who integrates alternative therapy with western medicine for a holistic wellness approach to pet care.

We advocate preventative pet care. Our staff is well trained to protect your pet's health by recommending services and products on an individual pet basis. Thorough routine physical examinations, customized immunizations, and parasite programs provide a foundation for a healthy pet. We believe in promoting a lasting bond between our clients, their pets, and our staff. We are proud care providers for pets adopted from the animal shelter, several area rescue leagues and for service dogs. To further veterinary learning and the human-pet bond we donate to the University of Florida. The ANGEL DOGS SCHOLARSHIP is the first endowed scholarship fund created by an alumnus of the University of Florida's School of Veterinary Medicine. The fund provides $1000 every year to a veterinary student showing need and commitment to the human-animal bond.

Services Provided Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped with a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets complete needs, including blood pressure testing, Tonopen technology to check eye pressures, allergy testing, and videoscope to aid in deep cleaning of infected ears as well as other videoscope guided procedures.

Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite allows for a wide variety of surgical procedures, ranging from routine surgeries such as spays, neuters and declaws and growth removals to orthopedic, abdominal and emergency surgeries. All of our surgical patients receive pre- and post operative pain medications to help them stay as comfortable as possible. During the procedure all pets have their vital signs monitored. We chart and record heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen perfusion, heart ECG and expired carbon dioxide level. After the procedure, they are closely monitored in our climate controlled ICU by our caring technical staff to ensure they recover safely.

Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high risk patients. We highly recommend doing blood labwork prior to any procedure requiring anesthesia and require it for all non elective surgery. We have a complete in house laboratory to insure your pet receives the level of care you expect from

Radiology Services: Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment delivers quality radiographs quickly to aid in the diagnosis of many disorders and our digitalizer allows us to send enhanced pictures by email to a specialist or copied to a CD for your records. We also have Dental Xray.

Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services in house and consultations with top cardiology specialists from the Veterinary Heart Institute. We also have mobile ultrasound specialist available to our hospital.

Holistic Services: We offer acupuncture by a certified member of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture, Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation chiropractic techniques, Chinese herbal medicine, aroma therapy and other complimentary methods of treatment for those seeking an integrative approach to pet care.

Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory provides for serum chemistry, hematology, urinalysis and parasite testing while you wait. Immediate results allow us to treat your pet without relying delay. We also utilize a commercial veterinary laboratory for specialized diagnostics, non urgent labwork and consultations.

Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, shampoos, supplements and heartworm preventatives to meet all the needs of your pets. Dentistry: Our dental services include ultrasonic teeth scaling and polishing, complete dental radiography, tooth extractions, Oravet barrier sealant application. We also carry a complete line of dental chews, rinses and gels to keep your pets mouth healthy and fresh. We will soon be offering restorative dental techniques.

Individualized Flea Control Programs: Fleas are a huge problem in this part of the country, but many pets needs differ from house to house. We can help develop a program that suites the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation.

Dietary Counseling: We can provide guidance for your pets dietary needs for each stage of life. We have therapeutic and prescription diets available for your pets individual needs. We also carry a complete line of all natural holistic pet foods from Natura including Innova, California Natural and EVO raw food diet.
