About Animal Protection Society of Durham
The Animal Protection Society of Durham has been helping animals since 1970. The APS of Durham is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and providing shelter for all animals. Our mission is to educate the public about the humane care and treatment of animals, promote spay/neuter and encourage the adoption of homeless animals.

We care for nearly 7,000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens each year. Every day we provide safe, clean living quarters for hundreds of animals that come into our shelter.

In addition to providing shelter to animals, we also provide low-cost rabies and microchip clinics to the public and educational programs to local schools and civic groups.

We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations from our members and other donors in the community in order to fund these programs.

Dear APS Staff and Volunteers,
My finace and I adopted Thisby on May 14th of this year. She was my birthday present from my husband to be, and with the possible exception of my beautiful ring, the best present I have ever received. Thisby weighed less than 2 pounds when we adopted her, but has grown immensely in the past 2 months and is over 4 pounds now. She is in perfect health and a very happy kitten. Thisby and I currently live at the beach in Virginia, which she loves, because she can watch sea birds out of the windows all day. She quite the little communicator and even talks to herself when she is really trying to figure something out or when she is wearing her harness. She chirps when she is happy, which is most of the time. Her aunts, uncles and grandparents have bought her tons of toys, but her favorite toy seems to be wadded tissue paper, which I spend a great deal of time picking up. She also loves bubbles and will sit and watch me create them forever. She is a very independent little soul, wanting to be held only on her terms, but will sleep in your lap for hours if you let her. Thisby has completely charmed everyone who has met her, and she and I are both very excited to move to Durham in August, I because I can't wait to be with my finace and
Thisby because she will have carpeted stairs, which are apparently all the rage in the kitty community. We adore her (although I think that her mommy
is more ridiculous about it than her daddy!) and are so grateful to APS for rescuing our little angel. We were very vocal in our support of the good work that you do and even inspired a friend to adopt two kittens about 2 weeks after we took Thisby home. Please continue to encourage people to
spay or neuter their animals, because not all of them are as fortunate as Thisby and the others on the Happy Endings page. Thank you all for your
dedication and caring!
Very Sincerely,

Sarah, Matt and Thisby
