About Animal Protection Society of Durham
The Animal Protection Society of Durham has been helping animals since 1970. The APS of Durham is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and providing shelter for all animals. Our mission is to educate the public about the humane care and treatment of animals, promote spay/neuter and encourage the adoption of homeless animals.

We care for nearly 7,000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens each year. Every day we provide safe, clean living quarters for hundreds of animals that come into our shelter.

In addition to providing shelter to animals, we also provide low-cost rabies and microchip clinics to the public and educational programs to local schools and civic groups.

We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations from our members and other donors in the community in order to fund these programs.

I adopted Diesel (Formerly "Chance"), a male boxer on September 22, 2005. He was very underweight (~ 57 lbs.) and was diagnosed with Heartworms. During the Heartworm treatment Diesel showed some signs of Kidney problems and developed a UTI but has been on antibiotics and seems to be recovering well. He is now up to 70 lbs., and since undergoing treatment for the Heartworms, he was given a clean bill of health. Diesel seems very happy now. He is obsessed with balls and chew toys. He has already popped two Basketballs and loves to destroy Tennis balls. Diesel loves people and loves to give hugs and kisses to everyone he meets. I am slowly starting to socialize him with other dogs, which seems to be going better than I expected, but he prefers little dogs.

I want to thank you so much for helping me adopt such a wonderful pet.
