Humane Education: Ending pet homelessness means that we must teach our children about responsible pet ownership (give tours, visit schools, create educational materials, etc.)

SPOT (Shelter Pet Outreach Team): You appreciate as we do the redemptive, healing power of the love of a companion animal. We reach out to shut-in residents in senior and specialized care facilities, bringing to them shelter puppies to hold and love. You can participate in these heartwarming miracles.

Administrative Project Specialist: Everyday, we have lots of administrative tasks that our staff simply can't get to; each vitally important to the achievement of our goal of saving more lives. Put your skills to work saving animals .

Corporate Support/Team Project Member: Employees from local companies give their time throughout the year for one-day projects that enhance the quality of life for our animals. If your company would like to help, please call the Volunteer Office at 516-883-7900, extension 329.

Special Events/Fundraisers: You probably don't know this, but it costs us more than $500 to prepare the typical homeless pet for adoption. Special needs animals cost much, much more. Because we receive no government funding, and precious little corporate support, we rely almost exclusively on individual donations and special events to support our lifesaving work. Volunteers aid our essential fundraising activities immensely, particularly helping out at our special events here at the League, like the Pet Adoptathon™ and Family Fun Days. Our events and even office work are always fun for everyone involved!

Off-Premises Projects: Members of churches, temples, scout troops, and other organizations frequently hold towel and blanket drives and special fundraisers (bake sales, car washes, etc.) in support of the League's furry friends. Perhaps your organization would like to contribute to saving lives this way.

About North Shore Animal League America<

North Shore Animal League America, headquartered in Port Washington, NY, is the largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization in the world. Since 1944, The League's mission has been saving the lives of pets through adoption, rescue, spay/neuter and advocacy initiatives. Every year, the League reaches across the country to rescue, nurture and adopt nearly 20,000 pets into happy and loving homes. To date, the League has placed close to 1 million puppies, kittens, cats and dogs into carefully screened homes. One of the first animal rescue agencies on the ground in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the League rescued more than 1400 pets from the region.

The League is also home to the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center, which provides 24-hour care for the pets sheltered at the League. Every year the medical center takes care of more than 10,000 outpatient visits, administers more than 15,000 vaccinations and performs over 11,000 free spay/neuter procedures for every adopted animal, preventing over 132 million potentially unwanted litters. Additionally, the League's SPAY/USA program is a nationwide referral service for affordable spay/neuter services.

The League is also home to a National Shelter Rescue and Humane Education Team. North Shore Animal League America offers a wide variety of programs such as a mobile adoption program, adoption counseling, training and foster care for pets with special needs.
