Lonely Cat

I have one cat and recently had to get rid of my dog due to many reasons. My cat had been around my dog since we got him as a kitten. They were really close to each other and played all the time. Do you think my cat will have a hard time adjusting to life without his friend?? Or am I just over reacting the situation. I would love to hear anyone's opinion on this matter. Thanks

I have found that the best company for a house cat is another house cat:)  I have two female house cats that play and romp all day long.  When I first brought home the second cat there was alot of spitting and hissing but after making them stay in the laundry room together for a couple of hours they have been best friends ever since.  Cats need one of their own around for companionship.
