I am so very sorry for your loss.....I truly understand how painful it is as we just lost our bassethound, Obo Monday, March 24th, 2008
There is NO easy answer for you. Grief takes it's toll and it takes some longer than others to find it easier to cope with the loss. We had Obo for 12 years and couldn't have loved him anymore than we did ( and still do)
I know when I am not at home, it is easier....but once I enter the house, his favorite areas within the house are empty...Obo had the luxury ( one of many luxuries) of lying on the couch and that spot, now empty, pulls on your heartstrings....They truly become your best friend in so many ways....and it hurts when they are out of your life. And you shed many tears, as we are now.
When we lost our chocolate Lab, back in 1996, we were heartbroken....the silence and the stillness of the house made the loss feel so much worse....we felt guilty about even "thinking" of getting another dog after Baron died....in some strange way, it seemed like we would be pushing aside the loss of Baron, which is nonsense if you think about it.... we got Obo, less than one year later.... Obo was nothing like Baron....2 different breeds and two different personalities... we love animals and we realized we still had lots of love to give....so we thought, why not....we didn't miss Baron any less or love the memory of Baron wasn't any less. We just wanted to give the opportunity to give another dog a home and to be loved..And that's when we adopted Obo....So, why don't you think of getting another dog? maybe a different but similar type breed...there are many, many dogs out there who need loving homes.
I am sure you loved and took wonderful care of your bichon and if he/she had the opportunity to thank you for giving him/her a wonderful life, I bet he/she would.
Why not give another dog the opportunity to say thanks for loving me and giving me a home! I know that's what in store for us down the road...and believe me...it doesn't mean you loved your dog that just passed any less.....I hope things work for you.
