Please help, I'm having a hard time potty training my 7 month old Pomeranian. I tried keeping a schedual and I take him out at the same times every day but I must admit I'm not the type of person who can stick to a scheduel 100% of the time. Also, my Pom doesn't "tell me" when he needs to go, he just goes where ever. My carpet has yellow stains everywhere! Got any advice?

I really hope you get some good response as I am having the same problem. I have two Australian Terriers and both have been impossible to house train. Rudy is not so bad and has occasional problems, but Roxie will go outside for hours and wait to use the bathroom in the house! I too need some good advice. Rudy is just over a year old and Roxie is 9 months. I neglected to crate train these pups and wonder is it too late? Rudy would be impossible to crate train as he is VERY affectionate and demands to be right beside you when you're home.

Your Reply: in the crate make sure the dog is in a small enough area that he can turn around then block the rest off so he can't get to that area. He needs to learn how to hold his blatter and by blocking off part of the crate he will not urinate where he sleeps. When you take him out of the crate take him right outside to THE SAME SPOT EVERYTIME and say potty, potty, potty and make a big deal of it when he goes. Do not play with him untill he has gone both pee and poop, this willl teach him to do his business and then its play time. If he comes up to yo turn your back and walk away you can repeat the potty routine. just keep walking and walking he wil figure it out. Good luck, it takes perservence to potty train an animal.

Try taking him outside and when he does pee.. say pee pee, pee pee... try and associate outside with pee pee... you dont necessarily have to stick to the schedule, take him out every 15 minutes.. and keep saying.. pee pee, pee pee.. you want to really enforce to him that he should go outside... we did this with our puppy and it worked perfectly. It might seem exhausting, all the in and out every 15 or so minutes, but it will work.... let us know how it goes.

If you feed him on a schedule, then he must "go out" on a schedule, (usually 15 - 20 minutes after he eats and drinks.) Some dogs do not ever let you know when they have to "go out" while some will go up to the door and stand there until it dawns on you, "Maybe he wants to "go out". Some will either bark, scratch , or whine at the door. But there are those who go WHERE-EVER, especially if they are really old, or too young to hold it. Some just don't know any better, because no one ever bothered to take the time to train them. That is just one of the reasons why some pets are placed at the pound. IT DOES TAKE TIME and Dedication. Please do not get mad and yell, scream, or punish him. Just be diligent in taking him out 15 minutes minutes- 20 minutes after he eats or drinks, and let him take his time and find THAT RIGHT SPOT to go. Keep saying "Go potty" untill he does. When he does go, give him a small treat and say "good boy! Go potty! good boy!", all the while acting like he just found a diamond ring for you, instead of just " going to potty." Let him know how pleased you are for his little "deposit ". In the beginningj, he doesn't really know what you want him to do out there, but if you are persistant, and don't get mad, he will try awfully hard to please you. AND, the small treat when he does go doesn't hurt either. NO DOG is ever beyond training, unless he has a bladder , (or other ,) problem. Good luck! I hope this helps.

PS: to " motely333": be sure his crate is just big enough for him to turn around in, and take him out 15-20 minutes after he eats or drinks.

well, what ive done is i bought a kennel that i put in the living room and both dogs will stay there when im not home. but see, when im home i walk them many many many times a day so that they can go number 1 & 2. ive been doing this for about 4 months and they havent gone number two one time in the 4 months. and you also need to make sure you watch your dog closely when and if you let it out to roam around. try that, it works!!

well, right now i have 1 min pin and 1 dapple daschund hound(hot dog). the min pin is pretty good about going to the bathroom outside but the daschund, man he was bad!! so what i started doing is i bought a fence and set it up in the living room. its actually two fences put together so that way they have more room. when i leave the apartment, there in there house and when i cant watch them very very closely, there in there house. since i started doing this i now know the dashund hounds routine for going number two. oh, and they both sleep there also and if you start this you have to make sure you stick with it or it wont work. ive been doing this with them for about three months and theres only been one accident, number two, inside the apartment!! good luck....

You really need to try crate training as they consider that their own personal space and will not go to the bathroom in that space unless it is absolutely unavoidable. Try a crate and see what happens. Then as soon as you get home, take them out and let them know that they go outside.. stating pee pee, pee pee. Let us know how this works.

You might have 2 paper train him, you get the pads and set them on newspaper to get him use 2 the paper. Make sure the paper is near a door so he can think hes close to outside. Use the pads for a bout a good 2 weeks of the pads and paper being in the same spot take the pad off an see if he stays on the paper. If not us the pads over paper 4 a few more days or so. hope that helps

crate training is what u need to do but with a smaller crate so that if he does pee he has to stand in it. dogs do not like to step or lay in their waste as far as time depending on how old the dog is how long they can hold it and control the amount of water they get to. dogs will drink out of board em. it usally takes a couple of weeks to do this. make sure that the dog goes strait outside when leaving the crate with no praise or socialization from you untill he goes to the bathroom, when you go out side with him take a treat with you and as soon as he finishes give lots of praise and the treat. pare the work "take break" or "pee pee" or what ever as the dog goes to the bathroom.
