Hi  have a maltese/yorkie mix, who was born with a bilateral cleft lip (he has no top lip).  Naturally,  we are keeping him and we think still looks cute (odd, but cute)  anyone have any experience with this?  Our vet says he has never seen a cleft lip in a dog in 25 yrs of practice. So no help there. He talked to a specialist who wants to see him at around 3-4 mos.  Maybe to do surgery.  He eats mushed food fine and can drink out of the water bowl.  I just was looking so see if anyone has been in this kind of situation before.  I am not going to do the surgery( provided it could be done)  just for cosmetic reasons

 Thanks

Wow.  I have never heard of that either.  Do you have any pictures you can post.  The good thing is that it does not affect eating or drinking.  As long as he is happy, that is all that matters.

 Looking forward to your reply.
