I am trying to find out how the breeding process goes. I am fairly new at this. So here goes. Can you take a female puppie from your litter and breed it to the father or is this inbreeding?? May sound dumb but I just don't know...... Thanks

Yes,in my book it IS inbreeding. Some people do it when they find two "perfect" dogs and they want to increase their chances of having a quality they like.I have read that it is legal to do,but I would think that if anyone knew you had bred a father-daughter,you may have a hard time selling. Also,I have read it is best to SKIP a generation between a breeding pair...so,it would be much better to breed say,a grandaughter to a grandfather,vs a daughter -father.Chances are lessened that any bad genes to be passed along when skipping a generation.PLEASE do ALOT more reading before you enter into a venture like this.Lives are at stake here.

From what I have been told it is best to breed grandparent to grandchild in animals if the animals are really outstanding. If they are not. look for an animal or line that compliments the faults in the animal to be bred. You should always try to correct faults and advance your breeding program rather than just breed. I have also heard the same for Uncle to neice, or the other way around.
I agree with the other post it will probably be difficult to sell offspring of father/daughter breeding.

Father to daughter is acceptable and the only one AKC accepts in a related breeding program. (not mother/son, uncle, niece ect.) This is called line breeding and is done quite frequently by show dog owners. Dogs unlike humans have hundreds of genes and the chances of breeding major defects from father/daughter are slim. I have done this with my toy poodles and have had wonderful results. Consult your veternarian for more information or buy a breeding book for more info. on genetics. I had no issues selling my puppies! I include a 3 generation pedigree with purchase of my babies, potential buyers are more then welcomce to see it before they decide to buy.
