The lovable Labrador retriever is once again top dog in the United States.  The Labrador is once more the most popular pet in the county for the 18th consecutive year!

 Puppy Treat!

Just today, this news was released by the American Kennel Club which looked at the number of dog license registrations in the past year.  These same statistics also show that the Bulldog is coming up as one of the top ten most popular dogs in the United States.

The breed popped into this position for the second time in the last two years.  This change in trend is the first time in the past seven decades!  Who knows?  The bulldog may soon overtake the Labrador in terms of the most popular dog in the United States.

The other dog breeds that made it into the top ten most popular this year are in order from most popular to least popular:  Yorkshire terrier, German shepherd, golden retriever, beagle, boxer, dachshund, poodle and shih Tzu.

In addition, the American Kennel Club has also released a list of the most popular dog breeds in the 50 largest cities in the country.  This list shows that some cities really do prefer one dog breed over the other.

In a unique change in trend, the Vizsla moved into the top ten most popular dog breeds for the city of Chicago.  While those San Diegans and Sacramentans really seem to love the Miniature Pinscher.

Interestingly enough, the tenth most popular dog breed in St. Louis was the Great Dane.  A great dog for a great city?  While in an odd twist, the Siberian Husky became the ninth most popular dog in Long Beach.  I hope those dogs get a lot of time in the water!
