Last month I blogged about a man in Dallas, Texas who came into an animal shelter to take his cat back from the shelter via threats and a baseball bat. The man, 59 year old Roger Booth, had at the time been accused of entering the shelter with a baseball bat and forcefully taking his cat which had been picked up on the street by animal services authorities. At the time there were also some implications that he had also nearly run over a couple of shelter employees when speeding out of the parking lot.
Well, the police found Mr. Booth. He was interviewed by detectives earlier this month though was not arrested. It looks like his life situation is drawing pity from the powers that be and the original reports may have been exaggerated as to how he behaved in the animal shelter.
You see, Roger Booth is dealing with prostate cancer and literally did not have the money to spring his cat from the animal jail. Plus, it seems that a neighbour may have purposely trapped his cat and turned it over to the animal shelter with out notifying Booth beforehand. Booth’s cat wears a collar at all times with his name and address on it just in case of such circumstances. Booth also claims that he never received any calls from the shelter about finding his cat, and he had to come down there himself to even find the cat.
So, there are a lot of issues going on in both sides of this case. It’s been decided that Grand Jurors will have the task of choosing whether or not to indict Booth on charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault or to simply decline to charge him.
