There are many cases of pets, dogs in particular, being able to detected things that humans cannot. Often with those same dogs managing to alert people to danger and thereby saving their lives in the process. Well, here is another story to add to the growing pile of evidence that dogs truly are man’s best friend.
A woman living in Van Buren, Arkansas stated that here family dog save her life and the lives of here family this past December 7th. Early that morning the family mutt woke up Stacie Pitts and would not let her alone.
She says that she woke with a headache and had decided to go back to sleep, but the dog named Miley persisted. Miley woke Pitts up once more.
Pitts stayed awake this time and realized that she also felt nauseous. Other members of the family also had headaches and it was then that she realized something was wrong. Everyone piled into the car and went straight to the hospital.
Doctors at the hospital tested the family and told Pitts that they all had carbon monoxide in their blood. It was in fact at dangerous levels when they came into the hospital. The gas company came into the home and found that there was a gas leak coming from the heating unit. If the dog hadn’t persisted in waking up Pitts, they might have all continued sleeping and not woken up at all.
The home did not have a carbon monoxide detector. However the landlord has since installed one and also plans to put in a new heater. Pitts will be taking her dog, man’s and woman’s best friend, Miley, to the vet for her own check up.
