I've written about pets whom have problems with loud noises, especially fireworks before and how some of them even became so scared that they ran off. Now, I thought I'd take a look at one veterinarian's treatment to help pets cope with those loud noises.
The vets at Oldmeldrum's Meadows Veterinary Centre hold free information sessions from time to time to help out pet owners with their pet's problems. The sessions cover different topics, but next week's session will be on the topic of fireworks, how to prepare your pet for firework season and help pets coping with their fears.
Emma Robinson, the clinical director for small animals at the Centre states, 'There are lots of times when animals feel stressed, like fireworks night. we have had some dogs who have had to have sedatives.'
Hopefully, attendees to this information session will find other ways to help their pets without having to give them sedatives.
For instance, there is a special massage technique called Tellington Touch, focusing on the pressure points in your dog's paws and ears. It works to relieve tension, ease discomfort and promote a sense of calm.
The pet owner massages these points in a circular manner to interrupt unwanted behaviors in pets and promote the wanted behavior of relaxation.
Supposedly, this works to not only stop your pet's fears of fireworks, but can also be used to cure bullying behaviors of other pets and in training.
You can look for Tellington Touch training and information sessions online and in your area if you are interested too.
