This past Friday was bring your pet to work day. If you didn’t know in time to take part its okay…you can still promote the idea by bringing your pet into work later on or by making your work more pet friendly.
There are plenty of benefits to having pets at work. They can be a friendly face at the office and a stress reliever during busy or hectic days. Pets can also help break the ice with new clients. Just make sure your pets are well behaved and okay with other people.
As part of the holiday, Half Price Bookstores encouraged people at their corporate offices to bring their pets into work. The company regularly allows people to bring their pets into work with them.
Jay Sabatucci, Texas State Director for the Humane Society also spoke at the corporate offices about pet adoption and the etiquette of sharing a cubicle with a dog.
Around a dozen employees were able to bring their pets into work on Friday. Employees used an eclectic range of items to keep their pets corralled in offices and cubicles, from bags and computer hard drives to baby gates.
Sabatucci approved of the bookseller’s involvement stating, ‘Half Price Books is perfect for an event like this…They are an eclectic, progressive type of organization, very cutting edge.’
He also suggested that employers establish guidelines related to appropriate behavior, productivity and safety in pet friendly workplaces. Companies should make certain to survey their employees for allergies and potential problems with having pets around before instituting a program for workplace pets.
To help anyone with instituting pet friendly policies the Texas Humane Society has published a book called ‘Pets at Work’ with ideas, tips and steps for creating a pet friendly environment.
