If you ever wondered what good it would do to know a little bit about Pet CPR then this story should provide the inspiration for you!
Debb Huetson of
According to Debb, 'Kri was gobbling down his food like there was no tomorrow...Then, all of a sudden, he started gagging and heaving, but nothing was coming out. At first, I thought it might be a hairball, but then he collapsed on his side.'
Luckily, Debb is a former hospital surgical technician. She followed the medical training she received for treating people and took action. Debb carefully probed Kri's mouth and found a large piece of kibble blocking the little cat's airway. She was able to remove the kibble with her fingers and Kri started breathing again.
He wasn't quite out of the woods yet, as his breathing was very labored. So, Debb called up her veterinarian who instructed her on how to monitor her cat for improvement in his condition.
Due to Debb's quick action and medical training Kri soon returned to his happy self with no ill effects. The veterinarian later suggested that Debb switch to a brand of kitten food with smaller pieces to avoid future problems.
If it weren't for that emergency training Debb Huetson received,
she might not have known to check for a blockage in Kri's throat, or that she
could remove it. Plus, having her vet's
phone number on hand helped a lot in an emergency.
